Topic 5: Memory, Learning & Improving Concentration


3.1.1 Understanding Memory Process

What is memory?
Memory is the ability to remember past experiences, and the power of process of recalling to mind
.
There are 3 types of memory process

  1. Sensory Memory
  • Numerous information coming from 5 senses will be stored in the memory for an instant
  • If one PAYING ATTENTION to the information, it will go to the Short-Term Memory (STM), but if not the information will lost.        
     2.  Short-Term Memory (STM)
  • Limited storage
  • Information must be repeated many times
  • Need to use some active learning strategies in order to get information to Long-Term Memory (LTM), otherwise the information will be forgotten.
     3.  Long-Term Memory (LTM)
  • Large storage
  • Information moved from STM to LTM and stored here for later usage.
  • If the information is not being used for some time forgetting may happen.

3.1.2 Memory Strategies

Memory strategies is important will help students in their encoding, decoding, storing and retrieving the information.
