Avoiding Plagiarism
What is plagiarism?
From https://www.plagiarism.org/article/what-is-plagiarism
According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, to "plagiarize" means:
  • to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own
  • to use (another's production) without crediting the source
  • to commit literary theft
  • to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source
In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone else's work and lying about it afterward.
The following are considered plagiarism
🍁Turning someone else work as your own
🍁Copying words or idea from someone else without giving credit
🍁Failing to put a quotation in quotation marks
🍁Giving incorrect information about the source of a question
🍁Changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit
🍁Copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, wether you give credit or not

How to prevent plagiarism?
🔹Planning
-Consult with your lecturer
-Plan your paper
-Take effective notes

🔹Writing
-Cite sources
-make it clear who said what
-Know how to paraphase
-Evaluate your sources
-Include a reference page

It’s Illegal
It’s no secret plagiarising somebody else’s work can lead to disciplinary action, including imprisonment depending on the severity. Using someone else’s work and claiming it to be your own is classified as fraud, so you’ll want to ensure that you work is completely original from top to bottom.

Robs True Author Of Skills
Put yourself in the shoes of a plagiarism victim – how would you feel if your hard work had been copied and credited elsewhere? For many, having your work plagiarised is devastating as it completely robs them of their skills and talents, so it’s only ethical and fair that you give
them credit where it’s due.

Referencing your sources isn’t difficult, and can save you a lot of grief compared to writing off content as your own when, in fact, it contains several plagiarised phrases and concepts. While you might feel more skilled for incorporating more complex ideas from others into your work, you will actually receive more praise and demonstrate better skill simply by using the necessary citations and ensuring that all sources are referenced appropriately.
